I'm a wife, a mom, a grandma, a writer, an editor, a reader, a college instructor, a Christian, a dog lover, a new cat lover (and we have way too many cats who keep having more cats . . . funny how that works), and a transplant from the suburbs to a couple acres in the country. We also seem to be magnets for stray animals (hence, the cats). We're working on taming our big yard, slowly remodeling our little cottage, building a playground for the grandchildren, and learning something new every day.
I love reading (who doesn't?)--usually nonfiction, historical biographies, authors who write about writing, short stories, and some fiction (love Amy Tan!). I've also been working my way through the classics--this past summer, reread Moby Dick, Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, The Scarlet Letter, some Shakespeare, Frankenstein . . . still have many more on my TR ("To Read") list.
My freelancing takes up a lot of my time--I simply love getting a fresh new project to help make that much better!
I have a B.A. in English and Writing from Houghton College, Houghton, NY (1980) and an M.A. in English from Ball State University, Muncie, IN (2013). I am currently working on my MFA in Creative Nonfiction at Ashland University in Ashland, OH (degree expected summer 2017).
I'm currently serving on the board of the Midwest Writers Workshop, a writers conference held every summer on the campus of Ball State University. I'm thrilled to be with an amazing team who puts together this conference that has been running for 40 years!
Check out my blog where I write about books and writing and teaching and grammar and publishing--and sometimes about us city folks trying to make our way in the country.
